Obituary of John "Jack" E. Lymburner

John "Jack" E. Lymburner, age 94 of Ransomville died Tuesday March 17, 2015 in his son's home in Lewiston after a brief illness. Jack was born October 30, 1920 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Isaac and Marie (Piper) Lymburner. He graduated from Trott Vocational High School and worked for Shredded Wheat in Niagara Falls before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1940. Jack served throughout WW II and was honorably discharged as a Machinist Mate 1st Class in 1946. He was a "Tin Can Sailor" serving aboard the Destroyer's USS Benson and USS Grayson. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the European Theatre Medal with 5 stars, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Defense Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal. Jack married Dorothy L. Gomersall on March 20, 1943 and they moved to Ransomville in1956. Dorothy predeceased him in 2003. Jack was the Post Engineer for the Army Reserve Center in Niagara Falls for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Ransomville Masonic Lodge F&AM #551,a member for over 50 years of the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co. as well as an Exempt member, and a member of the American Legion O. Leo Curtiss Post #830 in Ransomville. He was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed golfing as well. He is survived by his children, John "Jack" L. Lymburner of St. Augustine, FL, Beverly (late Richard) Reimer of Youngstown, and Craig Lymburner of Lewiston, his grandchildren, Michael and Anthony (Amy) Reimer, Paul (Leslie) Lymburner, Candice (Chris) Baldwin, Alesha Lymburner (Adam Briggs), and Jeremy (Heather) Lymburner; five great grandchildren; a sister, Betty (Roger) Wendt of Pekin; and a brother in law, Jessie Lewis of Lewiston. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Lymburner and a sister, Noreen Lewis. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Friday from 5 - 8 pm. Funeral Services followed by Military Honors will be held Saturday, March 21, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Matthew Worley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ransomville Vol. Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, PO Box 239, Ransomville, NY 14131.
