Obituary of Andrew Prieto

Andrew Prieto, age 81 of Niagara Falls NY, died Thursday July 24, 2014 in the Schoellkopf Health Center in Niagara Falls, NY. Andrew was born February 28, 1933 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Andrew and Rena (Arcane) Prieto. He attended local schools and received his bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Buffalo. Andrew was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and the recipient of the Korean, United Nations, National Defense, and Good Conduct Medals. He served from April of 1953 to his honorable discharge in March of 1956. Upon his discharge he married Kyoko (Tsukada) Prieto and they returned to Niagara Falls. Andrew owned and operated AJP Awards Trophy in Niagara Falls, NY for over 20 years. He was also the former youth director of the YMCA in Niagara Falls, and taught Professional Ballroom Dancing at Fred Astaire Studios. Andrew was a communicant of St. Joseph's RC Church in Niagara Falls. He is survived by his wife, Kyoko; two sisters, Paula (Richard) Tomasini of North Tonawanda, and Augustina (late Gerald) Downs of Ransomville; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. A Graveside Memorial Service followed by Military Honors will be held Saturday, August 2, at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph's RC Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY, with the Rev. Stewart Lindsay officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd. Ransomville.
