Haskell Smith, 81, of Irish Rd., Wilson, NY died November 6, 2009, unexpectedly at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Born in Jefferson City, Missouri on October 24, 1928 to the late Vasco H. and Lena B. (Jarrett) Smith. Haskell served in the U.S. Air Force from December 1951 to his Honorable Discharge in December 1955. Before moving to Wilson in 1993, he lived in Ransomville and Niagara Falls. Haskell retired from the New York State Power Authority as a Heavy Equipment Operator in 1990 after 25 years of service. On September 16, 1970 he married Jessie R. (Bennett) (Barlow) Smith who predeceased him on April 14, 1991. Haskell enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and woodworking. He is survived by his children, Russell J. (Diana) Barlow of Wilson, Sammy Smith, US Army Retired of Oklahoma, Jackie Perdue and William Smith both of Niagara Falls, NY; a sister, Lena May Simmer of South Carolina; eight grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was predeceased by two twin brothers, Tom and Bill Smith; a sister, Pearl L. Henning; and a son, David Barlow. Friends may call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston on Monday from 4 to 8 pm. Services will be held Tuesday, November 10, at 11:00 am from the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. Burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UNYTS, 110 Broadway, Buffalo, NY 14203
