Obituary of Richard D. Schimschack, Sr.
Richard D. Schimschack, Sr., age 69 of Lewiston, died Thursday December 21, 2017 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness.
Richard was born May 27, 1948 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Powley) Schimschack and he attended Niagara Wheatfield Schools. A Vietnam Veteran, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1966 and served until his honorable discharge in May of 1969. Richard served aboard the USS Fletcher (DD870) and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with I bronze star. On November 7, 1970 he married Dawn E. (Olds) Schimschack and he had lived in Lewiston for the last 47 years. Dawn predeceased him in 2013.
Richard owned and operated Schimschack's Painting until retirement. Richard's fondest memories and happiest times however always surrounded family. From growing up around the family restaurant, marrying, raising his own children and most recently spending time with his beloved grandchildren, these were his greatest joys.
He is survived by his son, Richard D. Schimschack, Jr. of Niagara Falls, NY; his daughter, Nicole (Patrick) Krawczyk of Lewiston; his grandchildren, Cooper and Carter Krawczyk; a brother, Robert (Helen) Schimschack of Bergholtz and several nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts. Lewiston on Tuesday, December 26, at 10:30 am with the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma officiating.
