Thomas P. Vaverchak, age 73 of Lewiston, died unexpectedly at his residence on Friday June 2, 2017.

 

Tom was born January 31, 1944 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Edward P. and Margaret (Pitonyak) Vaverchak. He began working for Niagara Mohawk on August 19, 1963. When he retired from National Grid on July 1, 1999 he was a B Troubleshooting Foreman. After his retirement he was instrumental in organizing the Retiree's of Niagara Mohawk monthly get together at local restaurants. As a young man, Tom was a star at the Cypress Gardens waterskiing shows in Florida. When he returned to Lewiston he joined the "Neptune Ski Club" where he did slalom and barefoot skiing for his audience. He was a communicant of St. Peter RC Church in Lewiston.

 

He is survived by his lifelong friends, Sue Johnston Hawes, Michael Johnson, and Tammy Skurski.

 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 27, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma officiating. There will be no prior visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Ambulance Fund, 145 N. 6th St. P.O. Box 748, Lewiston, NY 14092. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston.
