Ann W. Waggy, age 75 of Lewiston, died Saturday November 18, 2017 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a lengthy illness. Ann was born August 7, 1942 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Leon and Helen (Seeger) Struebel and was a 1960 graduate of Wilson High School. She married Larry Waggy on August 27, 1977 and lived in Hawaii for nearly three years before returning to Lewiston in 1980. Ann was a Secretary, employed by the Lewiston-Porter School District from 1980 to her retirement in 2001.
Ann was very active in community and professional organizations. She was a member of the Lewiston Service Guild since 2004 having held the office of recording secretary for 7 years; a communicant of St. Bernard’s RC Church in Youngstown and member and past vice president of its’ Altar Rosary Society; a member of the Red Hat Society; a volunteer at Heart, Love, and Soul Food Pantry in Niagara Falls; and a member of the Lewiston-Porter Retirees. She had formerly volunteered at St. Peter’s RC Church in Lewiston. Over the years Ann had been involved in many organizations. She was a member and former president, vice-president, and treasurer of the Suburban Mothers’ Club from 1965 to 1977 and 1980 until it ceased as an organization. She held offices of vice-president, secretary, and treasurer of the Niagara Orleans Association of Educational Office Professional from 1981–2006; a member of the New York State Association of Educational Office Professionals (formerly Secretaries) , 1982-2006; the Lewiston Garden Club from 2004-2009, where she held office of Membership Chair for three years; the Lewiston-Porter Socialites from 1980 -2000; the Hickam AFB, Hawaii, Altar Rosary Society, 1978-1080 as well as volunteering as clerical help in the office of religious education; and the Women’s Aglow Christian Organization, 1978-1980.
Ann loved to bake, especially at Christmas, making hundreds of cookies to share with family and friends, and she also loved to garden. Holidays and birthdays were special when she put her loving stamp on the event. Most importantly, she loved God, her family and friends, and no matter where she went she was kindhearted to everyone she met. She believed everyone deserved respect, kindness, gentleness, and a warm smile because you never know what another person is going through.
She is survived by her husband, Larry; her children, Valerie (Michael) Banks, Thomas (Suzette) Winslow, and Virginia de la Torre; her step grandson, Andrew Banks; and her sisters, Linda Lederhouse and Celestine (David) Zarnstorff, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 25, at 11:30 am in St. Bernard’s RC Church, Hinman and Second Streets, Youngstown, with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Burial will follow in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Youngstown.
